Well. This is a new one. Shying away from the usual football-game cliches, designers Infogrammes have chosen a completely new route. In Puma Street Soccer, you play as one of two four-a-side teams in a small, enclosed pitch, ala five-a-side indoor football.
From the demo, I can tell you one thing though. The graphics really aren't very good yet. The Direct 3d support for my Voodoo2 card used single-pass multi-texturing as far as I could tell, meaning that every so often, the screen would pixelize and start looking like a bunch of white lines with the graphics in between, rendering the game useless and meaning I would have to quit and start again.
The controls, also, seemed a little incomprehensible. This is supposed to be fast-paced intuitive quick-football, but instead it's more on a par with the sloppy control of WLS '99. However, you should take this information with a pinch of salt, because the Puma Street Soccer demo is but a demo, and the full version may have come on leaps and bounds by then.
One feature in the demo which really fitted the setting, however, was the supershot. Indeed, these mere mortals contain the magical powers of the power bar (no, not some sort of reference to football hooligans). By charging up the power bar, you can unleash a semi-unstoppable shot which the keeper usually fails to save. You do this by shooting at goal a lot. The more you do this, the more power you get until at last, your three power shots are available. Use them wisely and you'll get three easy goals.
Overall, Puma Street Soccer needs some work, particularly with the control system and the graphical engine if these things are sorted out, you can expect one hell of an enjoyable game at the end of it.
