The Japanese are surprisingly good at console soccer games, and here comes a new contender, one with fresh ideas and a host of talent with a proven record in other genres.
Taito have teamed up with cool new global publishers EON Digital Entertainment and are releasing International League Soccer for the PS2.
Formerly released in Japan as Greatest Striker, it received critical acclaim for many reasons.
Simon Maflin (PR at EON) said - "This game has been improved substationally from original. Allowing ease of play, and combining amazing graphics and great game speed, this offers a new and welcome change to an ever popular genre"
The game uses two different control methods for people of different skill levels. The one button control method is designed for novice players. Assigning one button to carry out the game's basic commands of pass, shoot and tackle mean the AI decides what to do by calculating the players position on the pitch. Those not confident at playing football games should easily be able to join in the fun and become competent quickly. The more advanced (or should that be 'normal') settings allow for the moves we all love and expect like chipping and through balls.
One World: United
Something not seen before is the welcome addition of a World Ranking Mode. With this a players team will be marked on each section of the teams performance over a set period of matches - attack, defence and midfield etc. So you can be thumping goals in all day long but if you have poor defence and lousy midfield play then don't expect good points! Once complete you are awarded a code, simply jump onto the web site, www.internationalleaguesoccer.com, follow the links and enter your individual code. You are then placed in the top 20 for the whole world to see! A lot of boasting ability there I think!
Other features include player's reactions to goals, real time weather that effects gameplay, cup and league mode, 4 player multi tap support.
The game features over 40 international teams. With the game boasting impressive graphics, stadium detail and realistic atmosphere it promises to be a very interesting game.
